A little side road off the Trail brings you to the tiny hamlet of Dingwall, and at the end of that road sits The Markland, a collection of cedar cabins with a pretty lodge containing a restaurant. We ate well there--would you believe, seafood?--and retired under a full moon. I set my alarm to get photos of the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean from the high cliffs on which we were situated. I shared my beautiful dawn views with massive swarms of mosquitoes who breakfasted well on South Dakota blood.
