Kindred Spirits in Cavendish

A rainy day greeted us so we packed up and decided to see a very important spot on the island before driving part way to St. Andrews where we would spend our last night in Canada.  That spot is Anne of Green Gables country in Cavendish on the north part of PEI.  Along the way several artfully arranged pumpkin displays caught my eye--they were worth turning back to photograph.  We also stopped at the National Park seashore but the day was a bit wet for beach walking.
Cavendish capitalizes on its fame as the birthplace of L.M.Montgomery, the creator of Anne of Green Gables.  The farm that we visited belonged to  friends of Lucy Maud's family, and she imagined it as Matthew and Mariah's farm.  The haunted wood intersects a beautiful golf course that probably wasn't there in Anne's time.  After we left Cavendish, we stopped at an oyster bar--PEI is well-known for its oysters.  Then we drove a series of back roads to get to the 13 mile Confederation Bridge where we ransomed ourselves out and entered New Brunswick again.
