PEI--The Road to Charlottetown

Prince Edward Island is simply called PEI in these parts.  We found it to be a most bucolic, pastoral scene of gently rolling hills with Minnesota-like farm places sitting above closely cropped emerald lawns.  Crops, from corn to soybeans to cabbages to pumpkins to its most well known product of potatoes, richly stretch between stands of trees.  We found our way easily into the largest city and capital of the province, Charlottetown.  Like Charleston, SC, this city has a historic central district of 18th and 19th century well-preserved homes and public buildings.  We found a place to stay in The Great George, a "boutique" hotel near the harbor and center of the city.  The front desk recommended a local restaurant just around the corner from us where we enjoyed another great platter of seafood and learned that the green stuff that is found in the center of the lobster is its liver and is supposedly a delicacy.  Could have fooled me.  A stroll around the harbor at night and a look at the eerie facade of the church across the street from us topped off a long day.  Like Charleston, this city is on my list of ones to revisit.
